For the safety of library users and staff, the HKS Library is not open at this time and we cannot consider accepting book donations. Please review the other options below to donate books.

The HKS Library will accept book and DVD donations with the understanding that the Library is very selective about accepting donations. Due to serious space constraints and the high cost of processing donations for our collection we will not be able to add all donations to the collection. Items donated to the Library and not added to the collection will be made available, for free, to the HKS community or recycled.

Please note that the HKS Library does not accept print journals or magazines.

If you wish to donate your books and/or DVDs directly to an organization, we recommend the following options:

In addition, the Cambridge Public Library publishes a list of local organizations that accept book donations.

If you remain interested in donating your items to the HKS Library, please email hkscirc@hks.harvard.edu In the email please answer the following:

  • Who owns the items that you would like to donate?
  • Why are the items being donated to the Library?
  • Approximately how many items would you like to donate?
  • Have most of the items been published in the last five years?
