Zotero has made changes to the way its application works. Zotero for Firefox users are now required to install the Zotero application that lives outside the browser. If you have Zotero for Firefox installed, you will be prompted to make this change when you open Zotero for Firefox. All of your data and settings will be transferred, and the new application can still be connected to Firefox. Read more about these changes from ZoteroPlease Ask Us if you need help with this process.

If you already have the Zotero standalone program, there are two ways to upgrade to Zotero 5.0 (Again, please Ask Us if you need help with this process):

  • Go to and download the application for your operating system. When prompted, accept to have your existing application replaced. All of your data and settings will be transferred.

  • Open your Zotero application and expand its Help menu. Select Check for Updates and follow the prompts to install the new version. Again, All of your data and settings will be transferred.
