To locate a specific video search in HOLLIS by the film title to access the film using your HarvardKey. You may also want to search directly for films in Kanopy or Alexander Street Video as sometimes there is a delay in cataloging new additions to these databases.

Video licenses for Kanopy and Alexander Street Video include public performance rights (for public screenings) as long as there is no charge for viewing the film. Both video platforms have closed captions. Videos from either platform can be shared through direct links or embedded directly into LTIs like Canvas.

Kanopy Directions:

Once you are in Kanopy, click on the yellow play button to start the movie. To expand the movie to full-screen view, click on the tiny box in the lower right side of the screen once you have started playing the movie. To view the box, your cursor must hover over the video screen.

Click on the More button below the movie screen, to view the transcript or add the movie to your playlist  If you add the movie, to your playlist, you have additional viewing options such as limiting your viewing to specific clips from the movie.

Select the Share button to copy and paste the video link into Canvas or your class syllabus so students can  video outside of class during their free time. The Edmbed link can be copy and paste into a website or course management system post so tha the fllm appears and can be watched there.

Alexander Street Video

Alexander Street Video provides detailed instructions on how to locate films, stream video/audio,view transcripts and create playlists and clips on its help page. A good starting point is this quick start guide. Alexander Street Video can be linked or embedded into integrated learning tools like Canvas. Directions for incorporating the video into Canvas and other LTIS are on this page.
