In many cases, your accepted manuscript (also called author's final manuscript) can be posted on on your personal website, departmental website or in Harvard's institutional paper repository, DASH for free. We do not recommend that you pay an additional article processing charge (APC) to the publisher for the "gold open access" option which often costs an additional amount of approximately $2,000-3,000 per article on top of the regular article processing fee.

Instead, contact the HKS Open Access Liaison & HKS Librarian, Valerie Weis for additional assistance. She can assist you in reviewing your publisher's agreement, and understanding other options for making your publication freely available to other researchers. In addition, if you are in the process of considering where to publish your article, you may also be able to negotiate more favorable terms with your publisher for making your article freely available.
